Children recognize and respond to Lou Rawls, A few years ago he performed the alphabet song on "Sesame Street." Millions of children have seen this segment (along with a newer second segment). Both have created a new generation of fans and contributed to his popularity among pre-teens.

Lou's affinity for youngsters is evident in the love he has for his two children, Lou Jr. (born in, 1964) and Louana (born in 1968). During their summer vacations, Lou's children joined him wherever he was on the road.

Success for Lou Rawls was long in coming. It can be directly attributed to his optimistic philosophy that it is possible to persevere against the odds.

That belief expresses itself in his life and music, telling people to keep the faith. Today might be bad, but there is always tomorrow if you just don't fall into the slump.

Rawls speaks reflectively about success with knowledge gained through the years of experience and talent that was shaped and honed under some of the worst working conditions.

"For every singer who is making it, there are at least a hundred waiting in the wings to replace us," he warns himself. "They might not be as good, but they are there. When you lose sight of that, you can just about kiss it off."
